LYNX PRODUCES

- Colour Usually close to that of the mare. Some bays from
chestnut mothers. Lynx frequently adds white on his foals' legs and
faces.
- Size One of two inches taller than their mothers is the usual
result.
- Movement — Improves the mare especially in suppleness, ease
and length of stride.
- Type Improves the mare in quality, front end, head, length
of hind leg,
movement and character.
- Dressage vs. Hunter/Jumper Depends on the mare he is bred
to. He will refine a heavy mare and add substance to a light mare.
See photo in Lynx Kids.
- Temperament He produces thinking, quiet-minded foals that work
with their handlers. His young horses are kind and easily trained.

IMPORTED FROM AND REGISTERED IN
HOLSTEIN
The Holsteiner breed is one of the smallest breeds in
Germany, representing only 6% of the total horse population. Stamina,
nerves and willingness to work with the rider is a trademark of the
Holsteiner Horse.
How I found Lynx was by being in the right place at the
right time. I was in Holland looking for jumpers for clients when I was
impressed by the number of Dutchmen that I overheard talking about the
super horses that they had seen in Holstein. So off I went to Germany
and found a very nice 4 year old gelding for my customer. I was also
impressed with the quality and stamp of the Holstein horses and since I
had spent my career purchasing competition and investment horses for
others I decided to select a really good one for myself. Lynx was my
choice. I wanted a competition horse that was bred to the nines and
there were no holes in Lynx's pedigree. At that time Caletto 2 was
making a name for himself and although he was known to be a good horse
his abilities as a sire were still unproven. Also, at this time Germany
was selling a lot of horses to the Orient and the larger animals, of
which Holstein has many, did not have access to this active market. I
was able to purchase Lynx and I quickly shipped him home. By the way,
the other horse that we purchased that trip jumped in the World
Championships in Sweden with his young rider.

DRESSAGE

Mary Phelps - photo
Dressage is what I like to do. He just likes to work and his aptitude
and willingness make it a pleasure. He has won many championships at
Intermediare.

HORSE TRIALS

In 1992, he competed in two horse trials and finished on his Dressage
score both times. He loves to gallop but is sensible and easy to rate.
In both competitions he wore his snaffle bridle in all 3 phases. He is a
clever jumper and his huge stride makes it easy to finish in the optimum
time.
JUMPER

Lynx jumps with ease. If his rider thinks that the fence or the distance
is difficult, all he has to do is add leg and Lynx adds the height.
He jumps cleanly, confidently, and in excellent form.

HUNTER

Lynx was shown in a few hunter classes at the start of his training.
He is a light moving elegant horse and he won in the Pre Green Division. He
crosses exceptionally well with Thoroughbreds and some of them have gone
on to win Championships.
BREEDING TO LYNX

John Launstein - photo
This requires a mare of breeding quality without obvious heritable
faults. As shipping semen to many areas does not allow for personal
inspection of all the mares, photos or a video are necessary.
It is important to Canterbury Farms that Lynx can produce for you the
type of foal that you will be proud to own. His children possess the
greatest gift of all--TEMPERAMENT. They show a lot of character and
personality but are kind and willing. They are athletic, jump very well
and show three excellent gaits.

LYNX'S PEDIGREE INCLUDES
If you look closely you will see that all of
Lynx's ancestors contribute to his ability as a sire. There is not a
horse in his pedigree that we are not very proud of!
There is so much information available on these
impressive horses one could have a web page on each of them. I have just
highlighted a few points to give the selective breeder an overview.
ANCESTORS
Lincoln
Lincoln is a tall son of Landgraf with a beautiful face, smooth
topline and good neck carriage. His shoulder and withers could be better
pronounced. He is close coupled with a well shaped croup. His offspring
are lively good moving foals with enough size and strength.

"Stallion of the Century", was an imposing stallion with an enormous
crest and neck carriage. He had a beautiful face and exquisite eye,
smooth total topline and much presence. His neck was long and broad, his
shoulder long and sloping, with a well shaped muscular croup. His
withers, back and loin could have been better defined. He was a good
mover and a phenomenal jumper who was tight in front, careful,
talented, having lots of bascule and great performance capabilities. He

disposition, beautiful head, good bone, and strong legs. He was
Holstein's most important Thoroughbred sire.
Aldato
Aldato
was far and away the best Anblick son. He was an "up hill" horse of
classic stallion type with marvelous, harmonious top line and good
expression. He had wonderful basic gaits with enormous drive from the
haunches. He was an important sire who reproduced himself in a great
number of the finest sort of broodmares who in turn became the solid
basis of many future competition horses. At the same time he produced
numerous sport horses for all disciplines.
Anblick
Anblick
was a fabulous Thoroughbred with the best blood lines. He was
harmonious, not overly large with a beautiful face, long slightly heavy
neck, very good shoulder and neck. He was excellent under saddle with an
ideal disposition. He crossed well with both fine and heavy boned mares.
His offspring were refined riding horses with excellent shoulders, good
withers and exceptional movement. He had many offspring in Eventing and
dressage such as the Olympic horses Antoinette and Venetia.
Manometer
Manometer
was an average sized stallion with a beautiful face. He was mediocre in
several areas but sired several stallions and a whole string of good
broodmares. His offspring were absolutely honest.
Caletto II
Caletto
2 was a stallion of Thoroughbred performance type. He was harmonious,
deep bodied, with a smooth topline. His muscling was not well let down
through the haunches. He possessed clean correct legs and feet, a good
walk and trot and an absolutely fabulous canter. He was a very good
jumper with extraordinary form over fences, brilliant with his knees. He
possessed an excellent temperament. Champion of his approval years in Germany and was said to employ the
finest type and movements. Sire of Olympic Gold Medalist Classic Touch.
Classic Touch was herself out of a Landgraf mare of which cross Lynx
closely resembles.
Deka
Deka's pedigree is 25% thoroughbred and for more than 83% she has her
roots in the founding fathers of Holstein. Her uniqueness lies in the
fact that almost every child of her eleven has been a performer at the
highest levels. All but one son are approved sires and daughter
Nathalie is the dam of an approved KWPN sire. An unparalleled unequalled
motherhood.
Cor de la Bryère
"Corde",
"Reserve Stallion of the Century",
was a stallion with great presence, good medium frame and energetic
masculine expression. He had a good face with fabulous, quiet eye and
rather small ears. He had good basic gaits , marvelous riding horse
qualities and was a spectacular jumper with scope, tight front end,
bascule and sharp knees. His offspring usually mirrored his type with
good frame and size. His get have been very successful in all
disciplines and for years "Corde" has been listed among the top German
sires, based on the winnings of his offspring. His heritage of
ridability, handiness, form and bascule over fences aided in bringing
the Holsteiner breed into even greater international importance. A stallion of great presence, wonderful ridability and a spectacular
jumper. Sired 85 approved Stallions and numerous International
Champions in jumping, dressage and three day eventing.
Furioso xx
Furioso xx is found on the maternal side of "Corde's" pedigree. He is
the great French high performance sire of many Olympic champions, some
of whom are Lutteur B, gold medalist in Tokyo, Pomone B, gold medalist
in Buenos Aires etc. He has sons and grandsons who are famous sires in
their own right
Rantzau xx
From 1971 to 1973 Rantzau xx was the leading sire of dressage
horses, show jumpers and event horses in France. He is regarded as the
best Thoroughbred stallion who ever entered the French breeding industry
of sport horses.
Consul
Consul was a tall, noble, well muscled, beautiful stallion with a great
deal of charm. He had a good shoulder and lines. He was a good mover but
not tested over fences due to injury. He was very good in the production
of broodmares as well as competition horses with nice legs and gaits.
Consul was considered the best son of Cottage Son. Counsul's mother,
Isolde, was a full sister to Morgenster, the mother of the famous Dutch
stallions Sinaeda and Senator, and grandmother of Tolbert. Consul
was the sire of the Olympic horse Granat.
Capitano
Capitano was a medium sized stallion with a beautiful, expressive face
and good neck carriage. He was a good mover who could move more
impressively from behind. He inherited an unflappable temperament from
his sire. He was very good under saddle and was an impressive relaxed
jumper.
Corporal
Corporal
was a beautiful, expressive, totally harmonious stallion of his sire's
type. He has a well set on neck, generous outline, well blended
shoulder, withers and croup. He was good under saddle and talented over
fences. The heritage of Corporal blood is highly regarded in mares.
Cottage Son
Cottage
Son was a stallion of rectangular frame and enormous presence. He had an
intelligent eye, heavy low set on neck, terrific sloping shoulder, good
back, heavily muscled croup, strong correct legs and feet and long
wither and hip. He was already a marvelous producer in England when he
came to Holstein. His importance to the Holsteiner breed lies not so
much in the production of top horses, but when he has been well crossed
and appears in the 2nd or 3rd generation of a pedigree, ultimate
performance capabilities are the result. Ramiro inherited most of his
valuable qualities from his mother, Valine, who was a Cottage Son
daughter. Medal winners in the 2000 Olympic Games carrying Cottage
Son blood are the jumpers: Calei Joter, Calvaro005, Centro, Lando, Ralph
and the dressage horses Chacomo, Ranier and Silvano.
